2026 College Football Week 2 Best Bets

“Get our Week 2 college football preview with six game breakdowns, home-dog spots, a two-unit lock, a money-line dog, and two parlays after Tulsa cashed at plus-450.”

Week 0 was 8-1. Week 1 finished 6-5-2 with two frustrating lock pushes, including SMU dominating Florida State and still only tying the number. Tulsa’s +450 money line kept the ledger green. The season mark sits at 15-6-2 and about 10 units up. Locks are 2-0-2. All plays are one unit except the lock (two units) and parlays (half unit). The board leans home dogs in rivalry spots, fading look-ahead and first-year coaching edges, and using team totals when the full-game number is polluted.

Week 1 Recap and Market Notes

Army ran the football the way the triple option is supposed to look: 569 rushing yards, 57 carries, eight touchdowns against Bryant. The entire roster touched the ball. That box score does not mean Army scores 50 every week. It means possessions stay long and totals stay useful.

Florida State’s Labor Day game turned into a national embarrassment when the lights failed and the delay stretched past an hour. Clemson’s trip to Baton Rouge was worse on the field. LSU won 51-3. The Tigers had no fight after a long delay in a visiting locker room. Dabo Swinney has to use the portal or this version of Clemson is done.

The betting card was messy. SMU outgained Florida State, sat on a minus-four turnover margin, and still pushed after a missed field goal and sloppy special teams. Tulsa covering and winning outright at plus-450 against a 91-player Oklahoma State roster was the play that mattered. Portal rebuilds do not hit in Week 1 just because the quarterback led the country in passing a year ago at a different school.

Context still matters. The average margin of victory last weekend was 25.4 points, the highest for any week since 1944. SEC teams won by 36.6. Ranked versus unranked sat at 37. A pile of those games were FBS-FCS. Do not overreact to every blowout. Do adjust when a ranked favorite cannot cover and then comes back as a favorite the next week. The market is often slow there.

Michigan’s win over Western Michigan was highway robbery on the clock. The on-air rules analyst said the game was over. The explanation afterward was thin. Western Michigan deserved the win. Treat Michigan as a team that scored seven real points against a MAC champion and needed a phantom second chance.

The MAC showed up everywhere else. UMass wrecked Rutgers. Ohio stayed within one score of Nebraska into the fourth quarter. Toledo had Michigan State in a fight on the road. Four MAC programs went into power-conference buildings and played. That is the Week 1 tape worth keeping.

Power Ranking Adjustments

Trending up: Virginia, North Carolina, Louisville, LSU, Oklahoma, Penn State.

Virginia ran the ball at will in Week 0. UNC looked ready. Louisville lost to Ole Miss and still cashed plus-7; Lincoln Kienholz needed a half to settle in and then looked like a starter. LSU’s demolition of Clemson erases the pregame noise. Oklahoma’s 51-0 over UTEP was the expected version of that roster: healthy quarterback, explosive offense, nasty defense. Penn State ended the “sneaky fade” conversation in the first quarter against Marshall.

Trending down: Clemson, Michigan, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State.

Clemson is the easy one. Michigan should have lost at home and still cannot run the ball. Texas Tech’s 33-10 over Abilene Christian is not the look of a Big 12 title favorite, especially with the quarterback coming off an ACL and the program already fighting to keep him on the field. Oklahoma State already had the warning label. Tulsa just cashed it.

Missouri at Kansas

Friday, Sept. 11, 8:00 ET, David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium
Missouri -5.5 (-205) | Kansas +5.5 (+170 ML) | Total 51.5
Weather: 60’s, moderate wind, chance of rain.

Last year’s meeting in Columbia finished 42-31. Kansas led 21-6 and still had a fourth-quarter lead. This year’s Missouri team is not clearly better, and the best version of the Tigers is the one that runs behind Ahmad Hardy. Hardy will not play. He is still recovering from a gunshot wound in his leg. Left tackle Cayden Green is expected back from injury. That is not the same as a healthy All-Conference tackle controlling the edge.

Missouri did not run the ball well even in a blowout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Austin Simmons is the Ole Miss leftover at quarterback. If Missouri cannot live on the ground, they have to throw on Kansas at night in a rivalry game. Lance Leipold’s roster is healthier. The split is loud: Kansas is only 39 percent of bets and 94 percent of the handle. The public is on the ranked road favorite. The money is on the home dog.

Take Kansas +5.5 (-108 at FanDuel). The money line is live. This profiles as a field-goal game, not a 13-point SEC flex.

Oklahoma at Michigan

Saturday, Sept. 12, noon. ET, Michigan Stadium.
Oklahoma -5.5 (-230) | Michigan +5.5 (+190) | Total 43.5
Weather: 80s, mild to moderate wind, mostly sunny.

The line has moved about seven points, from Michigan laying a small number to Oklahoma laying 5.5. That is a smell. It can also be the market finally catching a quarterback who just scored seven meaningful points against Western Michigan.

Kyle Whittingham’s public comment on the job at quarterback was not a vote of confidence: the job “is not something that’s infinite.” Bryce Underwood now faces one of the best defenses in the country. Michigan could not run it against a MAC front. Oklahoma’s front seven is a step up. In three losses last year, Michigan scored 13, 13, and 9. Last season’s meeting in Norman was 24-13.

Take Oklahoma -5.5 (-110 at Bet365) and, more cleanly, Michigan team total under 18.5 (-108 at FanDuel). If one offense pops, it is Oklahoma. The team total is the better way to play a low-scoring game than the full-game under, which is already the sharp side of the total.

South Florida at Army

Saturday, Sept. 12, noon ET, Michie Stadium.
Army -3.5 (-185 ML) | South Florida +3.5 (+154) | Total 46.5
Weather: 80s, partly cloudy, light wind.

Army just posted a cartoon rushing line. South Florida beat FIU 19-9 and still got outgained by more than 100 yards. USF finished with 208 total yards and 100 passing yards. The game was 6-3 heading into the fourth. That is not an offense ready for West Point.

Brian Hartline is a first-year head coach seeing the triple option for the first time. Jeff Monken is not. Army’s offensive line is all seniors. Cale Hellums is a do-it-all quarterback, closer to the dual-threat mold than last year’s version. The line has already moved toward Army after opening near a pick’em. The handle is on Army and the under. The public over is the trap.

Take Army -3.5 (-104 at FanDuel). The under 46.5 (-105 at ScoreBet) is the companion play. Army can use a full quarter on one drive. USF is not the old go-go roster. Byrum Brown is at Auburn. This is conference play starting 1-0 for the Black Knights, not a 50-point replay of Bryant.

UCF at Pittsburgh

Iowa State at Iowa

Saturday, Sept. 12, 7:30 p.m. ET, Kinnick Stadium.
Iowa -14 (-600 ML) | Iowa State +14 (+440) | Total 40.5
Weather: 50s, scattered thunderstorms, partly cloudy.

Cy-Hawk is usually a one-score game. Iowa State has won the last two. Kirk Ferentz has revenge. Iowa also looked like a different offense last week and did not allow a first down until the third quarter against Northern Illinois, and that came on pass interference.

Jimmy Rogers inherited a roster that lost a chunk of production when the previous staff left. The South Dakota State pieces are not the same as a top-25 Big Ten defense in a night rivalry game. Iowa -14 is a massive number for this series. A 40.5 total plus 14 points is usually where you take the dog.

Take Iowa -13.5 (-110) and Iowa State team total under 13.5 (-125 at DraftKings). A 24-3 or 24-7 script cashes the favorite and the team total. A 21-16 script cashes the dog and wrecks the under. The team total is the cleaner expression of “Iowa State struggles to move the ball.”

Ohio State at Texas

Best Bets

Lock (2 units): Michigan team total under 18.5 (-108).  The Michigan team total is the stronger individual number if the choice is one lock. Underwood does not have a 20-point night against this Oklahoma front.

Money-line dog (1 unit): Kansas +188. Home rivalry, missing star running back on the other sideline, and 94 percent of the money already on the Jayhawks. Missouri is not a finished SEC side this week.

Three-team Moneyline parlay (half unit, 6-1): Ohio State, UCF, Michigan. All three are home or road dogs in spots where the market has over-corrected.
