The NFC South enters 2026 as one of the NFL’s most wide-open divisions. No team posted a winning record in 2025, yet every roster has a realistic path to the title. Carolina claimed the crown at 8-9 and nearly upset the Rams at home in the playoffs. Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and New Orleans all finished in the same mediocre range and return with significant roster changes, injury questions, and plus-money betting value.

Carolina Panthers: Defending Champions Looking to Build Momentum

The Carolina Panthers are the reigning NFC South champions after an 8-9 season that few predicted. They kept a home playoff game close against the Rams and protected home field effectively. The roster remains largely intact with targeted defensive upgrades. Key losses include leading rusher Rico Dowdle (Pittsburgh), leading tackler Christian Rozeboom (Buccaneers), Andy Dalton, Hunter Froholdt, Cade Mays, Austin Corbett, DJ Wonnum, and A’Shawn Robinson. Additions feature Kenny Pickett, John Metchie III, Rasheed Walker, first-round OT Monroe Freeling, second-round DT Lee Hunter, Jaelan Phillips, and Devin Lloyd.

Injuries have been heavy early: OLB Nick Scourton (ACL, out for the season), WR Chris Brazzell (LCL, out for the season), RT Taylor Moton (blood clots, early-season absence), LT Ikem Ekwonu (patellar tendon, mid-season target), and DT Tershawn Warren (neck surgery, uncertain). Freeling and Walker provide important offensive-line depth.

In fantasy, Chuba Hubbard (RB32) is the safer option opposite Jonathan Brooks (RB36). Brooks carries higher upside, but returns from two ACL tears. Hubbard is the likely goal-line back. Outside of Tetairoa McMillan, the skill positions are uninspiring, though Jalen Coker offers WR2 appeal.

The 2025 offense ranked 27th in yards and points (under 300 yards and just over 18 points per game), 26th in passing, and 18th in rushing. The defense finished middle of the pack (16th in yards, 15th in points allowed).

New Orleans Saints: Sophomore Leap Potential With Upgraded Weapons

The New Orleans Saints finished 6-11 in 2025 after a slow start under Spencer Rattler and a stronger finish with Tyler Shough. Optimism centers on the second-year quarterback and a clearly improved supporting cast. Key losses include Taysom Hill (Denver), Demario Davis (Jets), Alontae Taylor (Tennessee), and Michael Davis. Additions feature Travis Etienne, first-round WR Jordyn Tyson, TE Oscar Delp, C David Andrews, Anfernee Jennings, Tyree Wilson, Kaden Elliss, and Martin Emerson, plus Bryce Lance in the receiver room.

Fantasy-wise, Chris Olave (WR12-13) and Jordyn Tyson (WR35-38) both look fairly valued. Olave has delivered 1,000-yard seasons in three of four healthy years; Tyson offers high upside as a high draft pick opposite him.

The 2025 offense ranked 23rd in yards, 28th in points (about 18 points per game), 13th in passing, and 27th in rushing. The defense finished 9th in yards allowed but 16th in points, elite against the pass (4th) and average against the run.

In fantasy, Drake London (WR7-8) and Kyle Pitts (TE6-7) are both drafted high. London has been relatively quarterback-proof; Pitts’ best production came late in 2025. Bijan Robinson remains elite.

The 2025 offense ranked 14th in yards but 24th in scoring (just under 21 points per game) with a strong rushing attack (8th). The defense finished middle of the pack overall but soft against the run (24th).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Significant Turnover After A Late Collapse

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers started 6-2 in 2025, collapsed to 2-7 after the bye, and finished 8-9. Major roster turnover defines the 2026 outlook. Key losses include Rachaad White (Washington), Mike Evans (San Francisco), Sterling Shepard, Hassan Reddick, Logan Hall, Lavonte David (retirement), Deion Jones, and Jamel Dean. The 2025 offense finished middle of the pack. The defense was average overall but ranked 5th against the run with a +7 turnover differential; the pass defense finished bottom-five.

The NFC South remains pure chaos. Any of the four teams can finish 8-9 or 9-8 and claim the division. Carolina offers continuity and defensive upgrades. New Orleans benefits from the easiest schedule and ascending young talent. Tampa Bay has the highest talent ceiling if the defense clicks. Atlanta’s individual stars are real, but the supporting cast and injuries make them the clearest fade.
