The Carolina Panthers entered the 2026 NFL Draft focused on helping Bryce Young continue his development. Carolina invested heavily in the offense by selecting Georgia offensive tackle Monroe Freeling in the first round and Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell II in the third round. Freeling may require some development before reaching his full potential, but his athleticism and versatility make him an intriguing long-term piece for the offensive line.
Carolina’s best value pick came in Round 2 with defensive tackle Lee Hunter. Many evaluators viewed Hunter as one of the top run defenders in the entire draft class after a dominant college career at Texas Tech and UCF. The Panthers also found quality value later in the draft with interior lineman Sam Hecht and safety Zakee Wheatley. NFL Rookie Minicamp Results
The Panthers wrapped up rookie minicamp on May 8-9 under head coach Dave Canales. The two-day event featured Carolina’s seven draft selections, undrafted free agents, returning developmental players, and several tryout participants.
Third-round wide receiver Chris Brazzell II quickly became the star of the weekend. Observers consistently praised his size, catch radius, and ability to stretch the field vertically. Brazzell’s performance generated immediate excitement because Carolina has been searching for additional playmakers to pair with Bryce Young. If minicamp is any indication, Brazzell could compete for offensive snaps much sooner than expected.
Meanwhile, first-round pick Monroe Freeling impressed coaches with his footwork and versatility. Carolina moved him between both tackle positions during drills as the coaching staff explored multiple ways to deploy him. Defensive tackle Lee Hunter also looked every bit the disruptive force the Panthers expected when they selected him in Round 2. The rookie class appears to have integrated smoothly as the organization transitions into Organized Team Activities.
Carolina Panthers Updated 2026 Win Total Projection
The Panthers currently carry a consensus win total projection of 7.5 victories entering the 2026 season. Sportsbooks initially opened Carolina at 6.5 wins before significant betting action pushed the number higher. Even with the increase, oddsmakers continue to slightly favor the Under due to one of the NFL’s most difficult schedules.
Carolina faces the third-hardest schedule in the league, including challenging matchups against the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Philadelphia Eagles. However, there are reasons for optimism. Bryce Young enters the season with improved protection and additional weapons, while offseason additions such as Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd should strengthen the defense.
The Panthers also benefit from the fewest travel miles in the NFL and avoid many late-season cold-weather games. If Young continues to develop and the defense performs as expected, Carolina could emerge as one of the NFC’s most improved teams and challenge expectations throughout the season.
