The Chicago Bears (2–2) travel to Landover, Maryland, to face the Washington Commanders (3–2) under the Monday Night Football lights. Washington enters as a 4.5-point favorite behind the NFL’s most dominant rushing attack, while Chicago aims to rebound from a sluggish pre-bye performance.
This matchup spotlights two young franchise quarterbacks — Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels — each drafted in the top two picks of 2024. Both teams have shown flashes of progress, but the key battle will be fought in the trenches: Washington’s No. 1 rushing offense versus Chicago’s porous run defense, which has allowed a league-high yards-per-carry rate.

Coming off their bye week, the Bears look refreshed and focused on establishing consistency under head coach Ben Johnson. Quarterback Caleb Williams is eager to bounce back from his worst performance of the season, a turnover-filled outing in Week 4. Williams has been efficient at limiting interceptions, hitting the “under” in 12 of his last 16 games, but he’ll need better pocket protection to avoid pressure from Washington’s defensive front.
Running back Roschon Johnson and wideout D.J. Moore headline a Bears offense that has thrived in spurts yet lacks sustained drives. The Commanders have built their early success around a relentless rushing attack. Despite losing Austin Ekeler for the season, rookie Jacory “Bill” Croskey-Merritt has emerged as a breakout star, averaging an NFL-best 6.6 yards per carry. His 111-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Chargers showcased Washington’s offensive depth and play-calling creativity under Dan Quinn.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels continues to deliver on his dual-threat promise, ranking among the league leaders in rushing yards by a QB. The Commanders’ offense leans on pre-snap motion, pulling guards, and gap-scheme power runs that keep defenses off balance.
Through the air, Deebo Samuel has been Daniels’ go-to weapon, recording 30 catches for 300 yards and four total touchdowns. With Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown sidelined, Samuel’s versatility remains critical. “We find ways just to get him the ball,” Daniels told reporters. “He makes plays every week.”
On defense, Washington must clean up missed tackles after allowing nine in Week 5 — the most in the NFL. Still, their success against scrambling quarterbacks (league-best 18.0 passer rating allowed) gives them an edge versus Williams’ mobility.
