The Chicago Bears entered the 2026 NFL Draft with a clear need on the defensive side of the football. NFL Rookie Minicamp Results
The Bears concluded rookie minicamp at Halas Hall on May 9 under head coach Ben Johnson. While the non-contact setting limits evaluations, several rookies quickly generated excitement heading into Organized Team Activities.
Sam Roush was arguably the biggest standout of the weekend. The Stanford product impressed coaches and observers with his NFL-ready frame, strong hands, and ability to make difficult catches in traffic during seven-on-seven drills. Chicago’s coaching staff believes Roush can contribute both as a blocker and receiving option early in his career.
Wide receiver Zavion Thomas also flashed throughout camp. The former LSU playmaker showcased elite speed and consistently created separation during drills. First-round pick Dillon Thieneman displayed strong communication skills and football intelligence in the secondary, while fourth-round cornerback Malik Muhammad earned praise for his versatility and sticky coverage ability. Overall, the Bears appear pleased with how quickly the rookie class has adapted to Ben Johnson’s system.
Chicago Bears Updated 2026 Win Total Projection
Sportsbooks currently project the Bears to win 9.5 games during the 2026 season. While that total represents a slight step back from last year’s 11-win campaign, expectations remain high as Caleb Williams enters his third NFL season.
The biggest challenge facing Chicago is its schedule. The Bears enter the year with what many analysts consider the toughest schedule in the NFL. Their opponents combined for a .550 winning percentage last season, and the NFC North remains one of football’s deepest divisions. Oddsmakers currently rank Chicago behind both Detroit and Green Bay in the division race.
Despite those concerns, there is optimism surrounding Williams and the offense.
