AAC Championship: North Texas vs Tulane

Matchup: North Texas Mean Green vs Tulane Green Wave
Location: Yulman Stadium – New Orleans, LA (outdoors)
Weather: Mid-50s, periods of rain, some wind
Current Line: North Texas -2.5 / Total: 67.5

North Texas comes in with one of the most explosive offenses in the country:

  • ~47 points per game
  • 500+ yards per game
  • Elite balance with QB Mestermaker and RB Kale Hawkins

The surprising twist? Despite that pace and volume, North Texas still grades as a top-10 pass defense, allowing only ~165 passing yards per game. Opponents are usually in catch-up mode, and they still aren’t shredding them through the air.

Tulane is more balanced and less flashy:

  • Competent offense
  • Solid defense
  • Very real home-field edge — undefeated at home this season
  • 2–0 vs North Texas in the last two years

The pivot point is weather + run game:

  • North Texas is top-10 worst in FBS against the run
  • Rain + wind = tougher to lean on the pass-heavy side of their profile
  • Tulane can lean into a physical run game and make this ugly

Picks

  • Prof Lock: North Texas -2.5
  • The Doc: Tulane +2.5

Mountain West Championship: UNLV vs Boise State

Matchup: UNLV Rebels vs Boise State Broncos
Location: Albertsons Stadium – Boise, ID (Smurf Turf)
Weather: Mid-40s, rain, outdoor elements
Current Line: Boise State -3.5 / Total: 57.5

UNLV has been one of the luckiest teams in the country:

  • Narrow 3-point win vs Air Force
  • Double OT escape vs Utah State
  • Questionable strength of schedule
  • Already got blown out by Boise in this exact matchup a month and a half ago — a 25-point loss where Boise never trailed.

Defensively, UNLV is a problem — and not in a good way:

  • Bottom-25 overall defense
  • Over 175 rushing yards allowed per game
  • Gave up nearly 300 rushing yards to Boise in the last meeting

Boise is getting healthier at the right time:

  • QB Maddox Madsen back under center
  • WR Chris Marshall back and ramping up
  • Final Mountain West game for Boise before they move on — emotional plus

Dome team (UNLV) going outside into the elements on the Smurf Turf is a bad formula.

Picks

  • Prof Lock: Boise State -3.5 (Lock of the Week)
  • The Doc: Boise State -3.5

Both see this as a “bet it now before it closes 5.5–6” type number.

Big 12 Championship: BYU vs Texas Tech

Matchup: BYU Cougars vs Texas Tech Red Raiders
Location: AT&T Stadium – Arlington, TX (roof, controlled environment)
Current Line: Texas Tech -12.5 / Total: 50.5

Texas Tech absolutely hammered BYU 29–7 in the regular season meeting in Lubbock, but that game was:

  • At Texas Tech
  • College GameDay in the building
  • High-variance BYU mistakes (pick-six, missed field goal, weird swings)

Both hosts agree:

  • Both defenses are legit top-10 units
  • Texas Tech averages only ~11 points allowed per game
  • BYU allows ~17.5 points per game
  • BYU’s offense has started to wake up since that loss (44 and 41 in the last two games vs TCU and UCF)

Motivation edge:

  • Texas Tech is already locked into the playoff, win or lose
  • BYU must win to get in — much more desperate team

Picks

  • Prof Lock: BYU +12.5
  • The Doc: BYU +12.5 and lean under 50.5

Projected script: ugly, defensive, closer to a 21–17 or 24–20 style game than a blowout.

SEC Championship: Georgia vs Alabama

Matchup: Georgia Bulldogs vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium – Atlanta, GA (dome)
Current Line: Georgia -2.5 / Total: 47.5

Narrative hasn’t changed much in the last five years: the only team that routinely scares Georgia is Alabama.

Both teams come in off rivalry wins that weren’t pretty:

  • Georgia struggled more than expected with Georgia Tech
  • Alabama needed to grind through Auburn

Offensively:

  • Both average 30+ points per game
  • Georgia can pound the rock with multiple backs + a mobile QB
  • Alabama has a legit Heisman-caliber QB and three dangerous WRs (Bernard, Ryan Williams, Horton)

Defensively:

  • Alabama’s rush D gives up ~124 rush yards per game → vulnerable vs Georgia’s ground game
  • Georgia allows 200+ passing yards per game → pass defense is exploitable and hasn’t been fully tested by elite passing teams lately

This profiles more like a 27–24 or 31–28 type game than a 20–17 grind.

Picks

  • Prof Lock: Alabama moneyline (+114 to +120 range)
  • The Doc: Over 47.5

Big Ten Championship: Indiana vs Ohio State

Matchup: Indiana Hoosiers vs Ohio State Buckeyes
Location: Lucas Oil Stadium – Indianapolis, IN (dome)
Current Line: Ohio State -4.5 / Total: 48.5

Two 12–0 heavyweights, both with:

  • Top-5 offenses
  • Top-5 defenses

Ohio State’s toughest tests:

  • At Michigan, vs Illinois, vs Texas — all talented, but none look like true playoff juggernauts this year.

Indiana’s best wins:

  • At Iowa
  • At Oregon
  • vs Illinois

The key point: we still don’t fully know how either team stacks up against an equal. That’s what makes this line and matchup fascinating.

Last year’s version:

  • Rock fight early
  • Neither team wanted to push the ball
  • Ohio State waited on special teams mistakes and short fields to finally separate

This year, both hosts expect a similar feel-out, low-variance script — especially early.

Picks

  • Prof Lock: Under 48.5
  • The Doc: Indiana +4.5 (moneyline dog in best bets)

ACC Championship: Duke vs Virginia

Matchup: Duke Blue Devils vs Virginia Cavaliers
Location: Bank of America Stadium – Charlotte, NC (outdoors)
Weather: ~43°F, clear
Current Line: Virginia -3.5 / Total: 57.5

We’ve already seen this matchup:

  • Virginia 34, Duke 17
  • It was 31–3 heading into the 4th — that was not a real contest
  • Duke dressed up the score late

Key context:

  • Duke has been wildly inconsistent all season
  • Back-to-back emotional rivalry wins vs UNC and Wake to close the regular season
  • Virginia, with QB Traeon Morris healthy, has been the more consistent, higher-ceiling team
  • When Morris plays, Virginia basically doesn’t lose — his only loss came in a spot where the roster was gutted by the portal

Duke’s offense can move it, but:

  • They turn the ball over constantly
  • Virginia plays cleaner, more disciplined ball
  • ACC + CFP politics very likely prefer a 10–2 Virginia champ over a 7–5 chaos Duke champ opposite a 12–1 JMU narrative

Picks

  • Prof Lock: Virginia -3.5 (Lock of the Week)
  • The Doc: Virginia -3.5

Both expect something like 28–21 or 31–20 — Virginia covers, and the ACC office sleeps better.
