NE Patriots Overall Draft Grade: A-
The New England Patriots were one of the more aggressive teams during the 2026 NFL Draft, trading up for each of their first two selections.
Their biggest move came with the selection of offensive tackle Caleb Lomu. While some questioned why New England invested another premium pick along the offensive line just one year after selecting Will Campbell, the move gives Mike Vrabel additional flexibility. Lomu can develop into the long-term answer at tackle while allowing Campbell to potentially slide inside if necessary.
The Patriots followed that selection by adding edge rusher Gabe Jacas, a player expected to immediately strengthen a pass rush that needed more consistent pressure during stretches of last season.
Later selections focused on adding depth across the roster. Eli Raridon gives Drake Maye another athletic receiving option at tight end, while Behren Morton projects as a developmental backup quarterback. Jam Miller also offers intriguing value as a late-round running back capable of contributing on offense and special teams.
Overall, New England addressed several important needs while earning an A- draft grade from most analysts.

NFL Rookie Minicamp Results
The Patriots held rookie minicamp from May 8 through May 10 at Gillette Stadium under second-year head coach Mike Vrabel.
Caleb Lomu quickly became one of the biggest storylines. The first-round selection immediately began cross-training at multiple offensive line positions as the coaching staff explored ways to maximize his versatility. Rookie quarterback Behren Morton also drew positive reviews throughout passing drills. Although Drake Maye remains firmly entrenched as the starter, Morton displayed enough arm talent to generate optimism about New England’s future quarterback depth.
Not every draft pick participated fully. Gabe Jacas attended camp but did not practice, Eli Raridon was absent, and Quintayvious Hutchins exited early because of an injury. Among the tryout players, safety Peter Manuma impressed the coaching staff enough to earn a contract following the weekend. The rookie class has since completed mandatory minicamp and is preparing to report for training camp later this summer.
New England Patriots Updated 2026 Win Total Projection
The Patriots enter the season with a projected win total of 9.5 victories. At first glance, that number feels reasonable despite having to face the Buffalo Bills twice. But if we’re looking at this through a Mike Francesa lens, the Under deserves serious consideration. Here’s why.
Everyone remembers the Patriots finishing 14-3 and reaching the Super Bowl last season. What many people overlook is how much more difficult this year’s road becomes. New England opens the season with seven road games over its first eleven contests.
That’s a brutal way to begin a season. Early travel alone can derail momentum, especially when several of those opponents reached the playoffs a year ago. Then there’s the schedule itself. The Patriots face the sixth-hardest schedule in the NFL based on last season’s winning percentages. That’s not speculation. That’s the reality of playing a first-place schedule while carrying expectations as one of the AFC’s top teams.
Could Drake Maye lead this team to another playoff appearance? Absolutely. Could they win ten games? Certainly. But betting isn’t about what can happen. It’s about whether the number offers value. Nine and a half wins requires this team to finish 10-7 or better. With seven early road games, a difficult overall schedule, and multiple playoff-caliber opponents throughout the season, that becomes a much tougher task than many bettors realize. The Patriots remain one of the AFC’s better teams. They simply don’t have the margin for error they enjoyed last season. For that reason, the Under 9.5 wins feels like the sharper position entering the 2026 season.
