NFL Week 12 Injury Report: Key Fantasy Football & IDP Updates

NFL Week 12 Injury Report: Expert medical insights, IDP practice trends, and start/sit takeaways from The Degen Doc to help set smarter Week 12 lineups.

NFL Week 12 is here, and the playoffs are officially heating up. NFL brackets, fantasy football, dynasty playoffs — everything is tightening. At this stage of the season, availability is almost more important than ability, and once again the injury board is loaded on both sides of the ball.

This week, The Degen Doc records a little earlier than usual because of a road trip, but still delivers a full IDP-first injury breakdown — then closes with a fast offensive rundown so you can lock in lineups in redraft, dynasty, IDP Fantasy Football, and DFS.

Use this article as your written companion to the show:

  • Track who’s realistically in vs out for Week 12.
  • Understand the type of injury and the real timeline, not just coachspeak.
  • Get clear start/sit guidance for your fantasy lineups and betting slips.

NFL Week 12 Injury Report – Episode Breakdown & Timestamps

00:00 – Intro
Week 12 is here, the NFL and fantasy playoffs are on the horizon, and Doc sets the stage: games matter more, NFL injuries matter more, and you have to know who you can trust in your lineup.

01:10 – NFL Injury Kickoff & Format Note
Doc explains this is an early-week recording (Thursday afternoon) with slightly less practice data than usual, but the format stays the same: IDP-first deep dive with a quick offensive injury rundown at the end.

02:15 – Arizona Cardinals Defensive Injury Update (Baron Browning, Will Johnson, Taylor-Demerson)
Three starters miss Wednesday: Baron Browning (concussion), Will Johnson (hip/back), and safety Taylor-Demerson (ankle). Doc breaks down concussion protocol, why he’s pessimistic on Johnson’s availability, and how ankle sprain type (low vs high/e-version) completely changes the return timeline.

05:25 – Atlanta Falcons LB Divine Diablo Forearm Injury (IR Return Window)
Doc revisits Divine Diablo’s forearm issue, explains why the IR stint likely indicates a small fracture and not a tendon tear, and outlines why once fractures heal they’re usually low re-injury risks. With his practice window open and a rookie QB on deck, Doc is comfortable backing Diablo if he’s activated.

07:07 – Jamel Dean Hip/Quad Injury (Buccaneers)
Dean gets flipped by friendly fire early in the game and is immediately ruled out — never a good sign. Doc labels it a hip flexor/quad-type strain, notes how nagging these are, and leans “doubtful” for Week 12 even though he doesn’t project a long-term absence.

08:15 – Jeffrey Simmons Hamstring Injury (Titans)
Simmons returns from a hamstring strain, then logs a DNP on Wednesday. Doc is not alarmed: he frames it as classic veteran management after a recent return and expects Simmons to practice later in the week and play — making him a strong IDP start if no setback is reported.

09:00 – Jonathan Greenard Neck/Shoulder Injury (Vikings)
Doc shifts from optimism to concern with Greenard. Originally sold as a minor shoulder/AC joint issue, it’s now two-plus weeks of no practice and a “shoulder/neck” designation for Minnesota’s best pure edge rusher. No IR yet, but Doc’s “spidey sense” is tingling for a potentially bigger problem and another likely missed game vs Green Bay.

10:35 – Baltimore Ravens Defensive Injury Update (Roquan Smith & Kyle Hamilton)
Roquan Smith (hamstring) and Kyle Hamilton (shoulder/groin) both sit Wednesday, but Doc views it as vet rest plus maintenance. They played through the issues last week, and he expects limited-to-full practices later in the week and both to suit up barring surprise news.

11:45 – Chicago Bears Defensive Injury Cluster (Edmunds, Edwards, Sewell, Brisker)
Tremaine Edmunds (groin), T.J. Edwards (hamstring/hand), Noah Sewell (elbow), and Jaquan Brisker (shoulder) all pop as DNPs. Doc breaks down hamstring grading, slots Edwards firmly in Grade 2 territory, tags him as “doubtful,” and worries that one or both of Edmunds/Sewell could also sit — setting up a very thin LB corps and a major IDP opportunity for next men up.

13:50 – Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Injury Update (Trey Hendrickson & Cam Taylor-Britt)
Hendrickson hasn’t practiced for weeks after an early-season injury was “not a big deal,” and Doc essentially treats ‘doubtful’ as ‘ruled out.’ Cam Taylor-Britt, meanwhile, suffers a Lisfranc mid-foot injury that requires surgery; Doc explains why that’s season-ending for fantasy purposes and another big hit to an already struggling defense.

15:00 – Terrion Arnold Concussion (Lions)
Arnold has already missed a week with a concussion and opens this week with a DNP. Doc notes that most players now miss at least one game with concussions but usually return in Week 2 — still, he stresses the need for Thursday/Friday practice before calling him a go.

15:40 – Darius Slay Concussion (Steelers)
In contrast, Slay logs a full practice on Wednesday coming off a concussion. With two more days to clear protocol, Doc expects him to be active in Week 12 as long as there’s no setback.

16:00 – Quay Walker Neck Stinger (Packers)
Walker leaves last week’s game and doesn’t return, now listed with a neck injury that Doc clarifies is more of a “stinger” (nerve irritation) than structural damage. That points to a 1–2 week issue, but his Week 12 status is truly questionable — and his absence would be a major blow to Green Bay’s run defense and IDP managers.

17:25 – Jalen Pitre Concussion (Texans)
Already ruled out for Thursday night, Pitre becomes another example of DeMeco Ryans and the Texans being ultra-conservative with concussions. Doc notes the shift from “back in 7 days” to “almost always miss a week,” and how Houston is pushing that even further in the name of player safety.

18:40 – Travon Walker Pec Strain (Jaguars)
Walker picks up a pectoral injury. Doc explains why a full pec tear is a season-ender, but this looks more like a strain — still problematic for a defensive lineman who relies on constant pushing and extension. He’s pessimistic Walker plays at less than full strength, if at all.

19:30 – New York Jets Defensive Injury Update (Harrison Phillips & Will McDonald)
Phillips (foot) and McDonald (quad) both played through injuries last week and now show up as DNPs. Doc reads this as classic veteran management: they don’t need a ton of practice, but you still want to see them back on Thursday or Friday before locking them into lineups.

20:10 – Kyler Gordon Calf Injury (IR Return Window)
Gordon’s calf strain activated the practice window, which Doc pegs as a Grade 2 (3–6 week) soft-tissue injury. He explains how teams either give players a “ramp-up week” or drop them straight into the lineup; Gordon looks like a true question mark for this week but a strong bet to return by next week.

21:05 – Quentin Lake Elbow Injury (Rams)
Lake lands on IR after an elbow injury that required imaging. Doc walks through dislocation vs ligament damage, and says the “return late in the season/playoffs” talk means he’s done for fantasy purposes — drop him in all but the deepest formats.

22:00 – Malcolm Rodriguez ACL Recovery (Lions)
Rodriguez comes off a major ACL injury and has now stacked two weeks of practice. Doc notes Detroit’s clear pattern: one or two ramp-up weeks, then activation. He expects Rodriguez to play limited snaps against the Giants and recommends monitoring usage to see if he becomes a viable late-season IDP add.

22:45 – Tatum Bethune High-Ankle Sprain (49ers)
Bethune is diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, which Doc flatly calls a “multiple-week” problem. Even in best-case scenarios, he expects at least 2–3 weeks out, with any rushed return likely leading to poor performance and risk of aggravation.

23:45 – Offensive Injury Rundown
Doc shifts into rapid-fire mode for the offensive side, covering key names you need to track before setting lineups.

Offensive Injury Rundown: Quick Fantasy Impact

Doc keeps his promise and blitzes through the offensive injuries at the end. Here’s the condensed fantasy angle for Week 12:

  • Lamar Jackson (ankle): Misses Wednesday but returns to practice Thursday. Doc views this as standard veteran management — start him everywhere with zero concern.

  • Jaxson Dart (concussion – Giants QB): Back practicing last week and again this week. Cleared, playing, and Doc doesn’t project any productivity dip despite a tough matchup vs the Lions.
  • Dak Prescott (hip): Tagged with a minor hip issue but fully expected to play. The bigger question is matchup vs a strong Eagles defense, not health; Doc is not downgrading him medically.
  • Josh Jacobs (knee – Packers RB): Leaves the Giants game, tries to return, ultimately can’t. DNP Wednesday but doing individual work Thursday. Doc calls him a true question mark: viable if he logs a full practice, but you must have a pivot ready.
  • Drake London (PCL strain – Falcons): Already ruled out, and Doc expects a multi-week absence. With Atlanta’s season sliding, he doesn’t think the team will rush him back — plan to be without London for the foreseeable future.
  • Michael Penix (ACL surgery – Falcons): Another ACL tear, another surgery. Doc is blunt: Penix is done for the year; stash only in dynasty formats where you’re thinking long-term, not for 2025 redraft.
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. (appendectomy – Cardinals): Misses last week and is ruled out again. Doc notes appendectomies are typically 1–2 game absences; Week 12 is the second, and he expects Harrison back on the field soon after this.
  • Ja’Marr Chase (suspension – Bengals): Out due to “SpitGate” after spitting on Jalen Ramsey. No injury here, just a one-game suspension; you bench him and move on.
  • Joe Burrow (wrist fracture, return timeline – Bengals): Initially not expected back until December, now stacking full practices. Doc acknowledges there’s a chance he plays this week, but with Chase out and a tough Patriots defense, he’d be cautious before blindly jamming Burrow into lineups his first game back.
  • Dalton Kincaid, Curtis Samuel, Mecole Hardman (Bills pass-catchers): All DNPs heading into Thursday night, and Doc doesn’t expect any of them to suit up. Treat them as out for this week and adjust your Bills stacks accordingly.
  • Aaron Rodgers (wrist fracture – Steelers): Small, stable fracture that doesn’t require surgery. Doc says he can play through it from a structural standpoint, but pain and functionality still matter — Rodgers is a genuine question mark and more of a real-life storyline than a fantasy starter at this point.
  • Jaylen Warren (low-ankle sprain – Steelers): Labeled a low ankle sprain rather than a high one, which is huge. Doc expects Warren to play and be reasonably effective; he’s not downgrading him much unless late-week reports turn negative.
  • Bucky Irving & Chris Godwin (Bucs – soft-tissue return attempts): Limited practices continue, and Doc emphasizes that Todd Bowles has been conservative with injuries. He’s cautiously optimistic this could be the week both return, but wants to see at least one full practice before calling them safe starts.
  • Joe Mixon (foot – Bengals): Doc closes the loop: Mixon won’t play a single snap this season after an offseason foot injury, validating his preseason “avoid at all costs” stance. He’s a drop everywhere in redraft.

Expert OVER/UNDER Betting & Fantasy Football Takeaway

Week 12’s injury sheet isn’t just noise — it should drive how you set lineups and attack props:

  • Concussions are trending longer, especially in Houston. Between Jalen Pitre and C.J. Stroud, the Texans are treating concussions as multi-week issues. Don’t bank on “surprise clears”; if a Texan is in the protocol, assume you’re without him until you see multiple practices.
  • Neck issues are not created equal. Jonathan Greenard’s evolving shoulder/neck situation is far scarier than Quay Walker’s stinger. For fantasy, treat stingers as short-term but volatile; anything drifting toward “neck” plus multiple missed practices is a red flag for both availability and long-term outlook.
  • High-ankle sprains and PCL strains are multi-week problems. Tatum Bethune (high ankle) and Drake London (PCL) fit Doc’s “do not chase early returns” bucket. If you’re trying to win now, you pivot instead of hoping they beat the timeline.
  • IR return windows are gold for late-season stashes. Divine Diablo, Kyler Gordon, Malcolm Rodriguez and similar players coming off IR or PUP are prime stash candidates. Just remember: first game back rarely equals full snap share. Grade expectations accordingly on both props and fantasy starts.
  • Decimated defenses create IDP and betting edges. Arizona, Chicago, Cincinnati, and potentially Jacksonville all face cluster injuries at key spots. In IDP, that means cheap volume for replacements; in betting, it can quietly raise totals and yardage props when key run-fit and coverage players are sidelined.

If you’re trying to win Week 12 instead of just “hoping for upside”:

  • Prioritize players with full late-week practices and clear roles over Q-tags tied to soft-tissue, concussion, or high-ankle issues.
  • In IDP, aggressively chase replacement snaps on thin units (Bears LB, Cardinals DB, Bengals edge, Texans safety) instead of clinging to injured studs who may sit or be on snap counts.
