The 49ers entered this draft with several roster questions, particularly at wide receiver and along the defensive front.
Holding the first pick of the second round, San Francisco reportedly received multiple trade offers but ultimately stayed put to select De’Zhaun Stribling. The Ole Miss receiver joins an offense undergoing significant change after the departures of Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings while veteran Mike Evans arrives to headline a revamped receiving corps.
The biggest value selection came in the third round. Romello Height brings explosive pass-rushing ability after starring on a dominant Texas Tech defensive line. Given San Francisco’s injury issues on the edge last season, Height has an opportunity to contribute much sooner than many third-round selections.
Not every pick generated excitement. Running back Kaelon Black was viewed by many draft analysts as a reach, especially with Christian McCaffrey still leading the backfield. If Black develops into a dependable backup, the selection becomes easier to justify, but it remains one of the more questionable choices in the class.
Overall, San Francisco addressed several long-term needs but mixed strong value picks with a few selections that carried greater risk than expected.

NFL Rookie Minicamp Results
The 49ers held rookie minicamp on May 8-9 at the SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara. The player who generated the most buzz was De’Zhaun Stribling. Coaches praised his ability to stretch the field vertically, giving Brock Purdy another legitimate deep threat as the offense continues to evolve. Late-round offensive tackle Enrique Cruz Jr. also impressed evaluators.
Despite weighing more than 300 pounds, Cruz displayed rare athleticism throughout drills and continues to project as a developmental successor along San Francisco’s offensive line. Running back Kaelon Black earned positive reviews for arriving in outstanding condition, while Romello Height flashed the athletic traits that made him one of the draft’s better defensive values.
Following rookie minicamp and OTAs, the entire draft class reported to training camp on July 18, where several rookies will compete for meaningful rotational roles.
San Francisco 49ers Updated 2026 Win Total Projection
The consensus sportsbook projection places the 49ers between 9.5 and 10.5 wins, with most major sportsbooks listing the number at 10.5 victories. We’re taking the Over.
The biggest reason is simple. Few teams in football can match San Francisco’s offensive firepower.
Brock Purdy enters the season surrounded by perhaps the deepest collection of skill-position talent in the NFL. The additions of Mike Evans and Christian Kirk complement established stars Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel, creating matchup problems for virtually every defense on the schedule. Even if George Kittle isn’t fully healthy to begin the season, Kyle Shanahan has more than enough weapons to keep this offense among the league’s best.
Coaching is another major advantage. Shanahan has consistently demonstrated an ability to maximize offensive production regardless of personnel changes. His offensive system continues to rank among the NFL’s most respected, giving San Francisco a weekly schematic edge over many opponents.
The division also works in the 49ers’ favor.
While the overall travel schedule is demanding, San Francisco has historically played well within the NFC West. The Seahawks and Cardinals continue rebuilding, creating several favorable divisional opportunities that should help establish a strong baseline for the win total.
Yes, there are legitimate concerns. The travel schedule is unlike anything we’ve seen in recent years, including more than 38,000 miles traveled and two international games. Veteran health will also be something to monitor throughout the season.
But great teams overcome difficult schedules. When you combine elite coaching, one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses, and favorable divisional matchups, the path to 11 wins becomes much more realistic than many bettors believe. The betting market may remain cautious.
